Old Soul

lyrics

Last night was the first time that I actually found myself asleep in weeks.
But really, that's the problem 'cause it also meant I had to dream.

You were there, your eyes were somewhat yellow and you were holding on to me,
And I knew it was a dream the second you started laughing.

You said,
"You're not an old soul. You're more like a worn out shoe,
And I don't have to walk around in you to know what you've been through."

Everything I do these days is starting all to feel the same.
Every word out of my mouth I swear I've heard someone say.
I've never been a good kid, not a bad kid, I stake my claim to the middle ground.
I'm just doing what my dad did, and somehow, I'm still letting him down.

You said,
"You're not an old soul. You're more like a worn out shoe,
And I don't have to walk around in you to know what you've been through."
